Lee D. Flood

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Research, Counseling, and Curriculum at Augusta University. My research is focused on issues of equity, access, and justice within K-12 settings. My primary research focuses on the specific and tangible ways that leaders principals intentionally act to support and promote equity, access, and justice within/in conjunction with their various contexts. I have a background in both quantitative and qualitative research with specific expertise in creating instruments and mixed-methods approaches to research. I have developed two instruments specific to measuring aspects of social justice leadership, the Social Justice Behavior Scale and the Social Justice Barriers and Supports Scale. This work has strengthened the understanding of social justice leadership and the contextual factors that support/inhibit its implementation.

As a member of the International School Leadership Development Network (ISLDN), I have been fortunate to be able to pursue this strand of research both independently and collaboratively in national and international contexts. This line of research is incredibly important as school leaders are faced with the challenge of confronting inequity within schools across contexts. Specifically, I have added perspective to the field as it relates to exactly how school leaders behave to affect social justice in various contexts and how those contexts affect those behaviors. These publications highlight the multifaced nature of leadership for social justice and aim to assist school leaders in their work.
